Germany's financial markets' experts are less pessimistic in May


Germany's financial markets experts are less pessimistic about the economy in May. The economic expectations indicator, published by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim inched up to -34.3% compared to -41% in April, but the indicator is still close to the 2-year low, which it reached in March in the light of the Russian invasion in Ukraine and the sanctions on Russia.
The current situation indicator kept declining, with the May reading at -36.5% compared to -30.80% in April.
The sectoral breakdown points to a different dynamic in each sector, with seven sectors, exhibiting improvements in the sentiment, and the remaining six - deterioration.
The ZEW Indicator is constructed as the difference between the percentage share of analysts who are optimistic and the share of analysts who are pessimistic about the German economy. The participants in the survey are up to 350 financial market experts.
